This chapter of the Rwandan National Neonatal Protocol covers neurology. Dr. Febronie Mushimiyamana discusses treatment, medication, and management of neonatal neurological injury. She focuses on treatments for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, seizures, pain management, and appropriate use of anticonvulsant medication. By the end of the chapter, participants will be able to:
-Identify appropriate temperature for newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE)
-Explain the diagnosis and management procedures for seizures
-Identify dangerous side effects of anticonvulsant medications
-Identify treatments for pain associated with minor and major procedures
