Turning Unused Hotel Soap into Liquid Soap: A Sustainable Solution

Tristan Corivo was staying at a hotel in Boston when he realized that most hotels throw away their unused soap. He decided to recycle it and turn it into liquid soap to reduce plastic waste. After researching and finding a non-profit that recycles old bars of soap, Tristan came up with the idea of turning it into bulk liquid soap. He contacted hotels and offered to recycle their soap for free, which was a hit. He had to scrape off dirt and impurities from the soap before boiling it down to create liquid soap. Initially, there were challenges with stabilizing the soap, but after experimenting with various ingredients, Tristan found that baking soda worked best. He founded the One Gallon Soap Company, which sells soap by the gallon and in refillable glass bottles, and is focused on reducing single-use plastics.
