We don't know tons about that in athletes. What we do know from some of Kubo's work is if you completely unload a tendon, so this is people put into bed and then looking at the mechanical properties of the tendon within two weeks you're seeing changes. We would use leg extensions and leg press heavy as our loading strategy. Squats tend not to be helpful for patellar tendon. Split squats are a bit better.
