The Differences Between Cis and Transgenic Technology
In a cisgenic organism, when it's specifically engineered, you are doing what we call self cloning. This transgenic is you are taking a gene from a taxonomically separate organism and inserting it into another organism that would not necessarily be sexually compatible. The way that the pharmaceutical industry produces human insulin is by insert the use transgenic E. coli to produce insulin. So now using this technology, we're using a chance transgenic organism to mass produce and otherwise unavailable life-saving molecule.
