In the early 19 hundreds, a set of cuniform inscriptions from the hittite empire were discovered and deciphered. They turned out to be an indo european language spoken in the second melenium b c. The latin language has consistently influenced english and its predecessors since the time of the roman empire. As you probably know, the romans were heavily influenced by greek culture, and they adopted a tremendous number of greek words as we will see shortly.
