Relaxing the Small Self

meditation is the only time in our lives where we enter this kind of complete rest. The small self may resist entering the relaxation of zazen, but it can be gently encouraged to do so. It's possible to convince the small self that, at least for the short period of meditation, everything is ok. We're safe. We can spare a few minutes to relax completely.
