Chronic Stress Is Like a Potent Drug

Stress can be good or it can be bad. Stress that is beneficial called U-stress and stress that is not beneficial but is negative is called distress. Even some forms of psychological stress can be beneficial. For example if you push yourself a little beyond what is comfortable whether you're trying to reach a goal or work on a project this type of challenge can be beneficial as long as it does not cause overwhelming anxiety. But when stress becomes so overwhelming that rumination occurs so you start to worry about past experiences that have occurred or you begin to worry about future things that have not occurred yet these can cause anxiety and ultimately depression.
