It's possible that the device is not accurately staging rem as rem sleep because your heart rate and your physiology. What you may be experiencing, however, is what we call a rem sleep rebound effect. And this happens with alcohol too. The accuracy of the device under the juress of t h z can be significantly worse,. But it's usually rem sleep where we see the impact.
