The Effect of Light on Health

Your body makes melatonin about an hour after dark, in its pineal gland. If you are exposed to artificial light and blue wavelengths or green wavelengths, you kill your body's ability to synthesize this hormone. It's not only related to sleep; it's one of the body's most important antioxidants. The direction of the light into the retina after dark is particularly bad in terms of disrupting our circadian rhythm.
