The Story of the Keto Diet
The keto diet was introduced in 1921 by an endocrinologist named Dr. Henry Geiland. Ketones are carbon oxygen molecules produced by the liver that cells can use for energy instead of glucose. The purpose of the keto diet is to maintain a state of ketosis, wherein your body's primary energy source is ketones and not glucose. Early studies show that it was extremely effective at treatment for epileptic seizures.
