The Importance of Language in Meditation
This technique does remind me a great deal of the technique in the cloud of unknowing, which is a medieval mystical text that was the inspiration for centering prayer. You take the word and you use it to be upon the cloud that lives in between you and God. And you say the word as a dart of longing love. I don't know why the centering prayer originators took it away from the dart of longingLove to the feather on the absorbent cotton. Because we don't want the burning intensity for God.I suspect it's because they were adapting it to the prevalence of Eastern meditation in the US and in Western culture.
