How Teachers and Students Interact and Respond to Feedback

Students and teachers tend to consume writing quite differently. They have trouble speaking the same language of response because their responses to writing itself are so far apart. Make sure that this interaction between you and your students in terms of how you're responding to writing is made explicit for them before they get the first set of comments back. Let them know why you're reading it, the way you'reReading it. Do it for your students, in front of your students, make them entirely aware of you as the reader.
