Having a Visual Brand

A great visual brand is one where, in the end, it feels a bit like a flag to rally behind. Or sometimes i think of it as sort of a peg to hang your feelings about the brand on. So if the visual brand is strong, then that means that, love it or hate it, it's easy to attach those feelings and recognize right away. And for physical products, packaging is absolutely huge. I actually quite enjoy going through, for example, packaging design on dribble or 99 designs  and scrowl through their portfolios. They need to work within the constraints of the physical world. But people get very, very creative with that too.
