Supporting Fluency Development in the Classroom
The big question is what should we do in the classroom to support struggling readers. High quality reading instruction means thinking about making sure that pupils experience a great deal of text. Reading aloud can also potentially develop their language comprehension and all of the elements of language comprehension. The last thing I'd note is across the breadth of the curriculum, if you are doing something that asks pupils to do some reading,. think ahead and think how am I going to make sure they can be involved in this lesson?
