What Are the L and R Sounds?
The use of the term liquid for those types of sounds can actually be traced back to descriptions used by the ancient greeks who describe those sounds as being wet or moist. The l and r sounds are fascinating because they don't really behave like other consonants. Because of their vowel like qualities, they tend to do weird things to the vowels around them,. especially to the vows that precede them.
