The Problems With the National Reading Panel Report
The National Reading Panel Report is one of the many things I've come across that had sort of the intent was great, but the results were not. The strategies they endorsed really consist of asking yourself questions as you're reading. But if you cannot answer those questions, the strategies won't help you. Most of the skills and strategies that teachers focus on in American classrooms were not endorsed by that panel and have no evidence behind them.
