The Intellectual Love of God
Spinoza distinguishes between three grades of knowledge. There's the first grade, which most of us are involved in all the time. And then there's the general, sort of scientific, empirical, scientific view. Thatis the second grade, is the scientific view, where you generalize about things. The third grade of knowledge is a kind of synthesis of grade one and grade two. You understand the universe as a whole, but you understand it directly, not as it were, mediated by concepts.
