This is a personal book to some extent, although it is an objective view of history as well. And like all the best history books, it is stinging. It's absolutely resonating at the moment when you talk about the Russian occupation of parts of Eastern Europe. We're talking about Hungary, nationalism, Victor, and goodness me, we're going to get into some or all of that. But I'd start with Austria-Hungary in the 20th century. People merrily talk about Austria-HungARY and all the big decisions being made in Vienna in 1914. But Hungary was a fairly cool partner.
