The Importance of Being Kind
Buddhism is about looking what's really useful to people and understanding the difference between compassion and being nice. If you're not emotionally stable yourself and you don't have perspective, then you can't help themreally. So first we get clarity ourselves and then we share that clarity with others. It's like trying to get through the Bible. You got to focus on one bit. But in the sense it's not selfish, it's just that if you really want to be useful for people, you need to be solid himself.
