Before 1900, runners didn't train year round. They'd run 45 minutes a day and then take months off. The people who really started with the year round training were the fence. Pablo Nirmi did a lot of long, fast walks in the morning. Zada Peck running repeat 400 after 400 on a 56 marathon is an incredible feat.
