How to Cope With Ambiguities in English
Even though English does not have grammatical gender, we still have pronouns that distinguish gender. Having he and she makes many kinds of discourse a lot easier because it will always be perfectly unambiguous. In Swahili they're normally bound in various ways but occur freely very often. I can't think of any language except English that has completely lost noun class. And most of the time people just use the word NAFRA to refer to any relationship between a discourse entity and a pronoun.
