Rigidity comes from two major sources. The biggest and an initial source, i think, is as we as we gain verbal rules,. As we learn symbolic language, we learn relation thinking. We that reflects back on us and re creat stories about how we came to be. And so rigidity is a process of being emotionally and cognitively closed. It means you are unaware of what's happening to you in the present. You don't know how to make it go away, short of brain injury.
