The Importance of Literary Criticism
The idea of literary criticism as an art, even though it kind of started with the Greeks, really wouldn't come up again until you get to the Renaissance. And then it was mainly scholars looking back with humanistic ideals about the values of Greek and Roman authors. It was not a practice with people writing books about it really until you get into the birth of what we would think of as the modern academy. There may have been sub-sex that I don't know about that some historical, some person with a knowledge like his expert in that period of history might be able to bring but those are the anomalies, right?
