If you don't have a control your big toe to lift it up that would be active mobility or even passive flexibility in the big toe then you're going to have some big problems up the chain. That's a principle called regional interdependency so if you have one weak link in that kinetic chain well that's going to demand compensation from another joint right and if one joint's not doing its job say in this aspect the big toe can cause knee pain.
