If someone's been running on the road and they've had their watch beeping every mile, which could be a good indication for road training. Travis: vertical gain is much more important when you're dealing with not only trail runners, but ultra marathon runners who typically are looking at any given race. Some of these races, especially near us here in Colorado, have so much vertical gain that it then becomes a worthy metric to track.
