The Benefits of Pale Skin in a Low-Light Environment
The dominant genetic variant that leads to pale skin in East Asia is this Kittle G variant about 10,000 years ago. At the same time as pale skin evolves, is developed into pig farming and millet and then rice. In the fertile crescent, it's sheep and goats and cows and wheat. So what's interesting is that pale skin arises in high latitude human groups, low-like human groups. Who are farmers? And it seems that you have to have both of those things together.
