The Importance of Attention in Childhood
The ways we receive attention turns into lasting implicit behaviors. We're not capable of pointing to them, but they're there unconsciously and culled from tens of thousands of interactions. If someone starts to sense that a partner or a friend or a coworker is becoming disengaged and disinterested as we talk, we might talk faster; we might become more dramatic in our statements. And all of these predilection or these tendencies are based on the earliest survival techniques that helped us adapt to our cultures and parents in childhood.
