The Importance of Organizing Work
Frederick Winslow Taylor invented something called scientific management in the early 20th century, which today we call management. The idea was to decompose a large project into a series of individual tasks and assign those tasks to functional specialists. If you do your task particularly well, better than expected, you should be paid a bonus rather than being penalized. That's just plain common sense.
