The German Army's Armour Protection in the War

The 251 was very vulnerable for air attack of course, because there was no armour on top. The 10 troops sitting in the back had no protection at all from air attack and they suffered a lot. This was sort of counterbalanced by putting MG42 on the back of it to try and protect the half tracks against air attack. Most common was a 34 on the front and a 42 on the back, and that continued right to the end of the war.
