Hidden Forces

CHAPTER

The Left Brain Is a Bullshitter

We have traded predictability and control for the kind of satisfactions that come from engaging in the world in a way that does present with some risks, right? I think we've traded more than we've realized. A German sociologist named Harmut Rosa has a small little book called The Uncontrol Ability of the World. It's really good. And what we have lost is what he calls resonance. It's a sort of aliveness, experience of being alive and interacting with something that is alive in the world. That gives us a difficult to articulate, difficult to quantify sense of satisfaction and pleasure and joy and meaningfulness,. et cetera, etcetera.
