Having a publicly available deadline that is for both people outside and people inside works super well. I have proof that there's definitely a surge of sales near the deadline. If your product is not wanted by the market, if your marketing message is horrible, it's not like throwing a countdown timer on your page is going to all of a sudden fix that. What urgency will do, what a deadline will do is that it will take something that's already working and make it all that much better. But if you've got no conversions to optimize, you can't optimize a zero.
