Charles the Bold's Military Ordinances

After he succeeded his father, Charles issued a series of military ordinances between 1468 and 1473. These ordinances established a permanent standing army. The Italian mercenaries, Condo Chiéori, were on the cutting edge of military practice. English longbowmen had dominated battlefields in the Hundred Years War. He hired them too. Artillery battered town and castle walls.
