i think that the left sometimes is under the impression that if they're doing good, then they're necessarily going to be marginalized. That goodness is necessarily weak, they're right. And so there's no point in contesting for power in society, because society is always trying to marginalize what is right. i think this is a perennial temptation of not just the left, but the kind of center-right politics we see today. It takes courage to tell the truth about one's self and about one's own defeat. Many of the persecuted lose their capacity for for seeing their own mistakes. The persecutors are wicked simply because they persecute. But this goodness has been beaten, defeated
