Ep. 90 - Doubt and Aversion

Insight Hour with Joseph Goldstein

CHAPTER

The Buddhist Attitude Is to Take Care of Anger

One way we feed the aversion in us is by having aversion to it. Aversion can take many forms, anger, hatred, fear, irritation, and annoyance. What's our attitude towards these feelings? If you hate them, if you want to get rid of them, you are strengthening them. The Buddhist attitude is to take care of anger. We don't suppress it. We don’t run away from it. We just breathe and hold our anger in our arms with utmost tenderness. These are universal forces in the mind. If we can be mindful of them, they actually become the path to our awakening. And that's really what our practice is about.
