Sleep Study
The most important metric, i think, is time in bed. A sleep study is the only way to truly confirm what stage you're in and make sure you don't have something like sleep apnia. I've virtually eliminated alcohol from my repertoire because of the effect that alcohol has on sleep. It's by doing all that stuff called sleep hygiene, keeping the room very cold.
