How to Improve Mobility Without Stretching
If you are a chest breather, if you are a shallow breather, I guarantee you those tight bound up muscles will magically start releasing and you'll get more out of your mobility work. Just the breathing alone, you know, help calm down the nervous system and let your muscles relax a bit. When we do stretch or when we do our mobility drills, instead of counting reps or holding for a specific amount of time, let's hold each position for a number of breaths. That helps us relax and own the movement and the new position - that's how you create more lasting flexibility. Loaded stretching is still maybe one of, if not, the best way to develop true lasting functional flexibility
