The Effects of Breathing on Performance
Most of the work of high-intensity breathing is that should be done by the diaphragm, but it's just a scolino muscle. Intercostal muscles, abdominal muscles, interscalines, and sternocleidomastarid all fatigue when you breathe really hard. So if you train them to be better, then you won't have that as a limitation anymore. If you need to support fast breathing because of the high intensity of the activity you're doing, those muscles are already fatigued.
