Learning to Learn - Four Thoughts

James Boulden: Transfer goals should describe what we want students to be able to do on their own when confronted with new situations. He argues that transfer has not always been identified as an important goal, and therefore it hasn't been an instructional emphasis. The metrics used to decide whether transfer has occurred may not be the proper or the most robust he says. And finally, I would say if this is our goal then we need to construct opportunities for students,. practice, and assess their ability to transfer skills across grades.
