Is There a Culture Influencing Language?
A lot of people, sometimes beginning conlangers, especially those who might have some sort of agenda get really moved by the idea of this linguistic determinism. I mean, my favorite example of how it all falls apart is people who create languages without grammatical gender and think that somehow this is less sexist. There are plenty of huge gigantic languages on this planet that have no grammatical gender at all. Do not even have separate words for he and she to the come to mind are Mandarin Chinese and Persian spoken in Iran. Neither places are hot beds of feminine thinking. Even going the other direction of culture, obviously language influencing thought.
