The Legend of Izanagi

The book is based on an ancient Japanese myth called Massogi. In it, a Shinto God goes into the underworld to rescue his wife but can't do it because she's died. He has to make this epic hero's journey up through the caverns of hell. Along the way he learns all these things about himself and changes his behavior for the rest of his life.
