The Importance of Syllables Versus Mora

In English, your stressed vowels get their full quality and unstressed vowels are reduced. In Mexican Spanish an unstressed vowel near an S sound might be reduced but not otherwise. Different phonological, different grammatical processes added new things to the word caused a stress shift which also caused changes in vowels all over the place. There's something going on there even if linguists don't know what it is.
