What Does It Mean to Be Safe?
If you don't understand the lengh through which they look at it, there's no way you can help coach them to a certain action. So one thing you might want to explore is asking them what means to feel safe. I take a lot of responsibility in a way that i probably shouldn't be taking. As the white person in the room, it's not my job to control who has the microphone. It's my job to sort of shut up and step back so that people can take the microphone.
