When our kds are young, the qualities that we praise in them. are compliance, or subservience, or likes total pliability. We call kind of shyness early on, what we call confidence later on. Rais says there's a lot in between total compliance and total asfulness. But certainly like helping kids develop into adults who have a sense of themselves has to do with how they interact with their parents.
