The Effects of Perception on the Brain
Our brain is bounded within a skull and it has no way of actually knowing what's going on in the world around it other than arriving electrical impulses being carried by nerves. As these electrical signals arrive, the brain makes a construct some guess, a model of what it thinks the world looks like. And our perceptions or abstract thoughts have a way of not bringing in new information to challenge these simulations about the world around us. So we can see just how our familiarity with experience over time can just make everything in the world less crisp, less interesting, less detailed.
