We're Not Wired to Look for What's Happening

The reason that our brain had that last big growth spurt about 100,000 years ago was because we got the ability to think rationally and a little thought became possible. The goal of that wasn't to bring in analytic thinking; it was to hardwire into our brain the need to belong to a group. We're not wired to look for what's happening. We'rewired to look for why someone's doing it.
