How to Tell an Athlete to Push or Pull Back
Athletes are very good at pushing themselves. I always say that it's really easy to train hard. So more often than not, I'm actually raining them in and saying to them, hey, your easy runs are too hard. Your recovery swim should not be a master's workout where you're just pounding it out. It's okay to go a little bit easier. Even today I got an email from an athlete who, well, is it okay if I stop a walk between intervals? Yes, if you need to regroup and walk, go ahead and walk.
