Preparing Overnight for Precepting Experiences

Calvin: I would never think about seeing a patient without pre rounding understanding what's in their chart so that i have a sense of where i might want to go in a counter with the patient. In the same way, when i am supervising a resident or a nurse practitioner trainee for just one afternoon, or maybe just one precepting encounter, i will go up to them ahead of time and say, before we start, my name is calvin, i am going to be your preceptor, dad. It only takes a couple of seconds, and it breaks open the hierarchy that is inherent in these relationships. And it also encourages all our learners, no matter what stage they are
