The Role of Birds in Botulism Epidemics
A typical outbreak of avian botulism might claim the lives of 50,000 birds or more. There have been outbreaks with over a million birds dying on Earth. The environments where they like to hang out can be full of decaying organic matter and make for a perfect setting for the growth of these anaerobic bacteria. These anaerobicacteria can then be easily ingested by Like a dabbling duck or a filter feeding shoveler.
