The Correlation Between Hard Workouts and Better Performance

I actually did a consultation for someone who had been coached by a certain person who shall remain nameless. He decided that in order to get even better, he was pretty much going to double the workouts that he was doing. And suddenly he went from like, you know, like 30th, 40th place out of 50 to 80 people to like he got his first top 10. I wonder if there's a correlation here.
