How to Build Strength on Barbell Lifts

Max effort method is to build strength on one main barbell lift at a time, usually a squat, deadlift and a bench press variation. Max submax effort days need to be done with the day arrest in between. If you'd rather work on gaining muscle, one or two repetition effort workouts may be more appropriate. The exercises you choose should match your goals and weaknesses.
